67 year old charity campaigner, Anne Mawdsley MBE, has raised over £27,000 for research into Raynaud’s and scleroderma in her most courageous challenge yet.
Anne Mawdsley, Chief Executive and Founder of the Raynaud’s & Scleroderma Association has returned from the fringes of the Arctic Circle where she drove a team of huskies across the lakes and forests accompanied by Jo Kaddish, Chair of the Raynaud’s & Scleroderma Association Board of Trustees.
At sub zero temperatures reaching -32 degrees Anne covered 52 kms over a two day period. This was a big challenge as Anne has severe Raynaud’s - a condition caused by changes in temperatures which prevent the blood supply from reaching the extremities.
In order to cope in such freezing conditions and keep Raynaud’s at bay, Anne was well prepared by wearing every imaginable heatingaid, thermal and silver clothing and heated garments, all donated by companies.
When asked how she felt about completing the challenge Anne said: "Preparation was the key. I could not have survived without taking precautions as the severe temperatures could have caused frostbite. Even with all the garments and heat packs, at one point I lost feeling in my toes and tears froze on my cheeks!"
Anne’s previous challenges have included swimming with Sharron Davies, rally driving in a Subaru with a British Rally driver, swimming with sharks, a simulated skydive and going down the Olympic Bob Run in St Moritz at 90 mph. These events have raised in excess of £100,000. There is still time to sponsor Anne's husky challenge by visiting: www.justgiving.com/rsadogsled
